Tutorial: Aplicando Dry Marble

Today I'll show the second part of my dry marble tutorial: applying the design made with the dry marble technique onto your nails.

Before starting the application, you'll need to remove the design made with nail polish from the surface you used. If you used a zip-lock bag, it'll be much easier than removing from wax paper. You'll need to fold the plastic/paper right on the edge of the dry nail polish design, and using both your hands, use your fingers to "roll" the plastic/paper further down in order to remove the design from the surface. Do this slowly and with patience because it's very easy to ruin all the hard work and rip the design in pieces. Take extra care with the edges that'll be thinner and easier to tear up.

If you used wax paper, it might rip under the design, leaving some residue right under the nail polish. This will add to the dry nail polish, making it thicker. It's ok to use it like this, but I'll be a little thicker on your nails, like a fake nail.

  • Tesourinha.
  • Top coat de sua preferência.
  • Lixa (a mais suave que você tiver). -Esqueci de colocar na foto! Sorry!
To apply the dry marble you'll need:
  • Base coat or the first color you used for the dry marble (I used Color Club Pucci-licious).
  • The design you created already detached from the plastic surface.
  • Orange stick or cuticle pushing tool.
  • Scissors.
  • Top coat of your choice.
  • Nail file (the less gritty the better!) - I forgot to put one on the picture, sorry!

First, you'll need to cut up the design. Using the scissors, cut pieces that'll be large enough to fit your nails.

  8. Finalize com uma camada de top coat.
How to apply:

*It's very important to do one nail at a time.
  1. Apply the base coat or polish of your choice. Don't let it dry.
  2. With your base coat or color still wet, place the piece of the design you chose over your nail.
  3. Apply some pressure over the design in order to "glue" it onto your nail. You can use the large end of the orange stick, the thicker end of the cuticle pusher, or even your fingers to apply pressure. Remember that dry polish when in contact with wet polish becomes wet again, and if you apply too much pressure, the design can smear or melt.
  4. When the design is fixed on your nail, use the sharp side of the orange stick or cuticle pusher to shape the design onto your nail.
  5. The design must be molded to the shape of your nail, and dry. (My picture has some white fibers under the polish because of the wax paper residue. If this happens to you, just cut it out using scissors or even the sharp side of the cuticle pusher).
  6. Use the scissors to cut off the excess at the tips of your nail.
  7. Use a less gritty file to file away any residue and to make the appliqué look natural. Always file from top to bottom so the design doesn't rip or unglue from your nail. If necessary, file the sides as well.
  8. Finish with a coat of top coat.

Final considerations and tips:
  • The thicker your design is (if you use more polish or less thinner, it'll be thicker), the harder it'll be for it to break or crumb.
  • Sometimes the base coat or base color take a while to dry, and the design keep moving over your nail. Speed up the drying process by placing your hand next to the A/C or a fan.
  • Top coat also melts dry polish, so if you have any extra polish by your cuticles or on the sides of the nail, apply a messy coat of top coat, and use the orange stick to swipe off any excess.
  • If you used wax paper to make your design, the chances of you having to deal with residue are big. If you have residue, the polish won't melt when you apply it over wet polish or base coat. Use your finger and apply pressure until it's fixed on your nail.

Beijos.

I hope this was clear and helpful. If you've never had the guts to try water marbling, give this a try. The application part is the trickiest, but it can be done without major problems. And the mess is way smaller!
If you do try it, please come back and share the link to your post or photo, I'd love to see your results!

Thanks for stopping by, for reading! See you soon.
